Hermida participates in the first edition of Andalucía Bike Race

09 February 2011

The Spaniard José Antonio Hermida, World Champion Cross Country 2010, will launch his title in this first edition of Andalucía Bike Race.
His teammate in Multivan Merida, the Swiss Ralph Näf who also held the title as World Champion but in Cross Country Marathon, will be riding with him.
They’re both on the top of the list of participants that at this moment counts more than 150 riders, of which there are several top-level athletes.
Amongst others, the Australian Greg Saw from Proteinfabrikken-KTM, the Czechs Pavel Boudny and Kristian Hynek from the Ceska Sporitelna-Specialized Team and Martin Horak together with Tomas Vokrouhlik from the team BMC-FACTOR.
From Great Britain come Ben Thomas and Josh Ibett representing the team TORQ, while Benjamin Justesen and Johnni Nielsen is one of the teams representing Danish T-Bikes.
In the female category, Sandra Santanyes will be the national hope, but there are also international participants: Danish Kristine Nørgaard (winner of races like Absa Cape Epic and TransAlp last season) will race together with British Sally Bigham. They are one of the favourite teams with the German Ivonne Kraft and Portuguese Celina Carpinteiro as well as the New Zealander Jennifer Smith, who will race together with the American Kathy Sherwin in the team Giant Orbea.
On the scene of national riders there are several top cyclists apart from Hermida: two times winner of La Vuelta a España Roberto Heras, the Catalan Marc Trayter, the Orbea teammates Rubén Ruzafa and Iñaki Lejarreta and from Hispano-Luso Alejandro Diaz de la Peña and Luis Leao Pinto.
All of them will have to face the six stages that makes up this new race, and which first edition takes place between the 27th of February and 4th of March in the andalusian provinces Córdoba and Jaén.
If you would like to share trails with these riders in this exciting challenge, the registration will be open until the 20th of February at the official Webpage:
